The American Fabric
|
|
~Music from Immigrant America~
|
Follow the musical threads that create the fabric of America in our April concert. Through the music you will recall many of the varying cultural influences that were woven together by immigrants to make America what it is today. World Voices will celebrate music by American immigrant composers which will enable audiences and performers alike, to deepen their sense of appreciation for the songs – for the music – that touch each of our lives. For today’s immigrants, singing their songs lifts their spirit when they discover that their songs are valued and heard in their new American setting, their songs are theirs and become ours.
Featured
in the performance will be the “Chichester Psalms” composed
by Leonard Bernstein, sung in Hebrew accompanied by harp, percussion,
organist Dr. Lynn Trapp from St. Olaf Catholic Church and a boy
soprano from the Minnesota Boychoir. Other music includes “Circus
Band”, written for mixed chorus and piano fourhands by
Charles Ives in his unique style of composing and “Agnus
Dei” which Samuel Barber himself transcribed for voices
and organ from its original form, “Adagio for Strings” for
orchestra. Come and let your spirits soar as you remind yourself
of your heritage. |
