Voyaging with
the Vikings

World Voices begins its 2006-2007 with the rich variety of music from the Scandinavian countries with its beautiful melodies and full, romantic harmonies which will capture your imagination and fill your spirit to overflowing.  F. Melius Christiansen, Knut Nystedt, Edvard Grieg and Jaako Mäntyjärvi will be among the composers whose music you will hear sung with musical excellence and artistic vitality from the 40-voice World Voices ensemble.   Scandinavian dancers and a Hardanger fiddler will join the Chorale on selected pieces.

World Voices:
Peace on Earth

World Voices presents its seventh annual concert of “World Voices: Peace On Earth.”  Come share the hope for peace with 320 children and the singers and instrumentalists of World Voices as they perform songs and carols of Peace from around the World.  John Rutter’s “Gloria” will once again thrill your ears with its combination of voices, brass, percussion and full organ.  The Cassavant organ will be played by Dr. Lynn Trapp from St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis. “Dona Nobis Pacem” will be sung by all the choirs from varying locations in the church.  Each children’s choir will be highlighted by singing two selections.   Dancers from Saint Anthony Sacred Dance will add their graceful interpretation for several pieces.   There will also be carols sung from several countries including the West Indies, Israel, Mexico and Palestine.  The climax of the evening will be the singing of “He’s Got the Whole World” including choirs, audience, brass and organ.  You won’t want to miss this festive evening celebrating the concept of Peace!

March 2007
Mediterranean
Ports of Call

Experience the rich diversity of musical styles that emanate from the countries that form the perimeter of the Mediterranean Sea including Spain, Italy, Greece, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Israel.  Enjoy the romantic melodies of Puccini and the double choir motet composed by Giovanni Gabrieli written to be performed from the side balconies at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice.    At this concert you will also enjoy a number of selections from “Music of the World” highlighting music previously performed by World Voices.

Saturday evenings’ event at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church will include a Multicultural Festival with ethnic musicians, dancers and cultural displays from selected countries.  The Festival will begin at 6 p.m. with the performance at 7 p.m.   Come early with your family to enjoy all the Festival has to offer!  More details in the months ahead.

Latino Groove

Return with us to the electric dance rhythms of Latino music.  As part of our educational outreach program two of the top area choirs will perform with World Voices at each of the two performances. At the May 1 performance Minnetonka and Chaska High School Concert Choirs will be performing with World Voices at Arts Center on 7.  At the performance in Roseville the Roseville & Sibley High School Concert Choirs will be performing with World Voices.   “Latino Groove” will be complete with Caribbean percussionists and Mexican dancers to entertain you!  Each of the high school choirs will sing two selections for the enjoyment of the audience.  This will be a wonderful way to conclude our 2006-2007 Concert Season!!
