Greetings!
“Small world, huh.” Marshall McLuhan coined the phrase “global village,” noting how, with technological advances emerging, we can now connect with people throughout the world as though they were almost next door. You hear it – maybe even say, “Small world, huh” when an incident points out that we sometimes operate in overlapping spheres.
While modern communication tools and coincidences may make the world seem like a smaller place, they do little to make the world a better place… that is, unless they also contribute to greater understanding of different cultures and communities. That’s where World Voices comes in.
World Voices is an ensemble of voices and instruments founded on the premise that music is a universal language with considerable power to help people connect with one another and create a sense of community between diverse populations.
Listening to exceptional music enhances our awareness and deepens our understanding of the cultural and spiritual forces encountered throughout the global village. And all too often, enhanced awareness of diverse customs and greater understanding of different cultures are in short supply in today’s world.
At World Voices, we have several customs of our own this time of the year. One is our magnificent holiday concert, “Peace on Earth,” with details available on our website (www.worldvoicesmn.org). A second custom is turning to people who know us, seeking financial support. As in previous years, your gift will be matched on a one-for-two basis by special friends of World Voices which will help enable us to make our budgetary goal of $153,000.
Please use the downloadable pledge card to indicate your investment in making the world both a bit smaller and a bit better through the gift of music. Your gift is important to us and we thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
Karle Erickson, Artistic Director, and the Board of Directors
